I'll be taking the month of July off in order to spend more time outside and less inside in front of the computer screen. Please feel free to browse through earlier entries.

The weekly journal of seasonal happenings, from what the weather’s doing here in northwest Ohio to what’s happening with the barnfolk and humanfolk on our small farm. Think of the  weekly journal as a letter from a country cousin. So, quick get a cup of coffee or tea and take a few minutes out of your busy day to visit.
My husband Tim and I planned to spend our retirement years on the farm where he was raised. As time passed, however, we realized we didn’t want to waste all that time not living in the country. So, more than twelve years ago we moved here with our three daughters. When we  arrived, the farm was dozing quietly and with our arrival we like to think that it awoke.

Tim’s parents, Frank and Gladys, called this farm, situated between the little Paulding County towns of Oakwood and Charloe, home until their deaths. They are the ones who made the farm the tree shaded place it is today.
The barn, long empty of life since the days my husband was a boy, is bustling now. Snow white homing pigeons sail in and out. Hens busy themselves about the chicken run while Boswell the gander leads a small herd of ducks on their daily foray around the farm. Rabbits nibble fragrant hay, goats doze in the sun and Chase the retired harness racing horse holds court over all.
The farm has been the site of garden parties and two high school graduation parties; an autumn
barn dance and in June last year, a wedding rehearsal barbecue. The granary served as a backdrop for a bluegrass band and straw bales served as country style seats. Little kids waved sparklers as other guests gathered around the fire ring and toasted marshmallows for S’Mores. It was a night we will always hold lovingly in our hearts and we know it wouldn't have been the same if it hadn't been here on the farm.
